Short Synopsis
A short drama set in WW1, ‘One of His’ follows Sergeant Peters, who finds purpose in his personal mission to encourage and rescue Private McCallum; a 14 year old who lied about his age to enlist and is trapped on the front line trying to find his father. Sergeant Peters forms a paternal relationship with McCallum at a time in history where the world seems to be coming to an end.
The film adds a new perspective on morality and portrays the hidden but ever-present impact that faith has in conflict and suffering. There are times when we have to choose what or who to prioritise. These choices impact the world and the people around us.

About The Team
Directed and written by Michael Velykorodnyy, who previously created the short film adaptation of ‘La Belle Dame Sans Merci‘ (2025), based on a poem by John Keats. Michael has a keen interest in philosophy, in-particular ethics and faith, (he himself being a follower of Jesus Christ) and is determined to bring that knowledge and lived experience into the direction of the film, highlighting the result of standing in convictions, when reason and rational fails.
Working alongside him, is Director of Photography,Charlie Edison, who plays a key role in the visual mapping of the story. He also oversees the authenticity of the production design, maintaining the other-worldly yet accurate ambience of the front line in the early days of the war.

We at VALULOID are dedicated to delivering this story to the scale and grandeur most effective to create the atmosphere and realism appropriate. Therefore your contributions will go towards bringing this to life, through our pre-production and production design. This includes costumes, props, locations, practical effects, and any visual effects necessary in post production. As well as making sure that our wonderful cast and crew are looked after and provided for.
Why this story?
When we are constantly bombarded by negative media coverage of events and wars that are happening throughout the world, we can quickly start to loose hope. Having close connections to Ukraine, Michael Velykorodnyy understands the mental exhaustion that comes with the heavy weight of war and how easily we can drown out the simple voices of truth and goodness that occur in the chaos of it. The stories that bring hope to those who have to fight another day, are overshadowed by countless others that speak of no light in the darkness. Yet we persist.
This film was written with the intention of bringing to light some of the quiet victories and the benevolence of sacrifice that acts as a reminder to us all. There is purpose to find and a reason to continue, despite the circumstances that we find ourselves in.
